    Description

Arts & Crafts Fulper Pottery Musical Jug Sterling Overlay Athletes
Early 1900's Fulper Silver Overlay Musical Jug with various athletes in Sterling Silver overlay. This is a seldom seen musical Fulper art pottery jug with matte blue glaze with hints of green and blue drip glaze. It is decorated with silver overlay athlete scenes on all four sides featuring a golfer, a football player, a polo player and an ice skater. The handle and neck have silver trim over a green and blue drip glaze over the matte blue. The matching top has a cork stopper. The spring wind music box (inserted in base} plays the everlasting drinking song "How Dry I Am" when the jug is lifted. It measures 9" inches tall and 5 1/4" in diameter. The overall condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or hairlines. The sterling overlay shows no wear or damage and has a nice aged patina.
I removed the base and there is no Fulper mark beneath it but I am certain this is theirs by the shape.
#679 jug was a special-order shape for Ritz Import & Export Corporation, 448 4th Ave, NYC. This jug was introduced in 1923 and produced throughout Prohibition-era 1920s. The Ritz company installed the music boxes, and their musical movements were typically Swiss, of better quality, and usually with 32 or 36 notes, as opposed to the more common 17 note variety.
